In a dystopic world, humanity is on the verge of extinction, machines have taken over. But is it really the machines, or rather those who control them? And is there a life outside the dystopian illusions, in solitude, amidst an exhausted, dismissive nature?

With “What remained”, Luxembourg-based melodic death metal quintet Sleepers’ Guilt release their second full-length studio album. Without being a concept album, “What remained” explores the end of humanity and takes the listener on a musical journey into the tides of fate.

lyrics

As he stood at the gates
Threshold to the unknown
Waiting to step into a new world
Willful to fulfill his vow
How little did he know
Here at the tides, the tides of fate
Clinging on a last vestige of hope
How little did he know
How little did he know
How little did he know
Did he know

What was left behind
Oh so he mourns it all
Which road needs to be travelled
So he is waiting for some call
Which lessons will it bear?
Does his task contain any scope?
Will this journey unveil any aim?
Even now he’s still got hope

Memories fading
A new path he’s searching
Ideas turn into nothing
Convenience vanishing

Will he see
Will he search
Will he strive
Will he find

Sufferings rising
Oh he endures some more
Pains are growing
So he is close about to fall
Endless yearning
Will his way lead him home?
Sense of an ending
Even now he‘s still got hope

See doubts intoxicating his mind
He begins to understand that there is nothing
out here to be found
Whatever childish hope lead him here
There’s this new reality showing him that all
fell apart

An empty world that he’s facing
Barren lands that he must wander
Abandoned realms he will be tracing
Not knowing what he’ll be finding
Buried by the tides of time
What knowledge is to be found
What caused all of this
The search for answers, the new purpose
